HP’s Organizational Structure

HP operates with a hierarchical structure with some characteristics of a matrix structure, particularly in its business segments.

There is a hierarchical structure with distinct levels of management at the top end of the organization, with the President and CEO leading and setting the company’s overall strategic direction. Senior executives who report to the CEO oversee various functional areas, such as finance, operations, marketing, and technology.

Within HP, a matrix structure is in place to manage its diverse product and service offerings. The company is divided into multiple business segments, including Personal Systems (PCs and laptops), Print, and Corporate Investments. Each business segment operates as its own unit with its own leadership team, allowing for specialization and focus on specific markets and customer needs.

HP also maintains functional departments that support its operations across all business segments. These include functions like research and development, manufacturing, finance, human resources, and marketing. These departments provide specialized expertise and resources that are leveraged by the various business segments.

HP’s organizational structure is ultimately designed to efficiently manage its various product lines and segments while providing a clear chain of command and specialized expertise in functional areas. This structure allows the company to adapt to changing market conditions, innovate in the technology sector, and serve a diverse customer base effectively.
