Overview

IG International Education Group helps guide and prepare Chinese students for entry into US colleges and universities. The IG team is split between offices in China and remote workers in the US. 

With the company experiencing growth and stability, finding internal contacts and collaborating with remote co-workers was difficult. IG needed a solution that could provide detailed, up-to-date organizational information for the entire company.

Business Challenge

As a high growth company, IG’s organization was continually changing. Maintaining org charts in Powerpoint was a tedious, time-consuming process, and the org charts were often out of date as a result.

The manual org charts were also limited to providing only basic contact information for each employee. The company wanted the ability to include more detailed data, such as whether a particular employee was a new hire or where they were located regionally.

Most of IG’s HR team worked remotely, and multiple team members couldn’t collaborate simultaneously to create and maintain the org charts.  

Providing easy org chart access to all company employees was also difficult. The IG team was widely-dispersed, highly-mobile, and needed a secure, cloud-based solution accessible from anywhere.

Solution

The IG team searched Google to determine the best potential org chart solution for the company. Kadesh Simms is IG’s AVP of Human Resources and is also responsible for HR systems. “I’ve used HR systems for a long time,” says Simms. “And I could tell based on the screenshots and demos that Organimi was right for us.”

Simms and her team work remotely almost 95% of the time and count on Organimi. “You could say my team and I are super-users,” says Simms. Organimi org charts are used across the entire organization, and Simms has the company org charts almost always open a on her desktop. She and her team constantly push Organimi’s functionality — from sharing charts across the organization to importing and exporting employee data to printing org charts in custom formats.

The cloud-based org charts are easily accessible to everyone at IG, and employees can be confident they’re receiving the most current data. “We even include links to our Organimi org charts on the bottom of our HR emails to help people navigate the organization,” says Simms.

Organimi has also helped expedite queries to HR. “If a manager needs the most recent org chart or even an older version, I can quickly email him the links. It’s as simple as that,”explains Simms.

As IG continues to grow, so does the pace of people movement and the influx of new hires. “We rely heavily on Organimi,” says Simms. “It’s particularly helpful for new hires during the onboarding process.”
