Overview

Guatemala-based Colegio Interamericano strives to offer the best bilingual education possible, providing its graduates with both US and Guatemalan high school diplomas. Interamericano also supports a thriving international student population. The school’s mission is to prepare its global citizens with the knowledge, skills, and values to lead and improve a rapidly changing world.

With a growing and ever-changing international faculty and workforce, the Interamericano team needed a way to create flexible, detailed organizational charts to foster communication and collaboration throughout the organization.

Business Challenge

Colegio Interamericano boasts over 240 staff, including many temporary contractors, and there are considerable staff changes year over year. “Before adopting Organimi, we were creating manual org charts, rather than using a dedicated application,” explains Helen Williams, Organizational Effectiveness Specialist  at Interamericano. “They were time-consuming to create and update, and provided only minimal information.”

The school’s HR team needed an org chart solution that was easy to use but powerful and flexible enough to incorporate information like staff photos, email addresses, and LinkedIn profiles. “We also have staff members that work in multiple divisions and groups,” says Williams. “We needed a solution that could reflect those multiple reporting relationships. Plus, our board is always looking for detailed, updated staff information, and with manual org charts, it was difficult to provide timely, accurate reporting.”

The Colegio Interamericano HR team has been using Organimi for over three years, initially discovering it through a Google search for best in class org chart tools. At first, the team used Organimi to create basic org charts for the school, then enhanced those charts with more information as time went on. “Organimi was easy to implement and begin using,” says Williams. “Then, after we added staff pictures and got very positive feedback, we began adding other information like email addresses and LinkedIn data.”

The Interamericano team recently upgraded to Organimi Version 7.0, and users have embraced the new look, redesigned user interface, and enhanced capabilities of the latest release. “With our rapid growth, we needed more control and the ability to add specific information,” says Williams. “Organimi makes it easy for us. And, when we had questions, the Organimi customer service team responded very quickly with clear and helpful answers.”

Looking ahead, the Interamericano team plans to integrate even more employee information into its org charts. “We have a lot of information in formats like Google forms,” says Williams. “So we are going to explore capabilities like Organimi’s direct integration with Google Workspace.
