Founded in 1917, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is a Quaker organization that works for peace and social justice worldwide. From the U.S. to Africa, South America, and the Middle East, AFSC’s programs address wide-ranging issues, including racial and social injustice and equality for women.
With over 400 employees and countless volunteers active globally, AFCS needed an org chart solution to enable better communication and collaboration for all stakeholders and help leaders create a more dynamic, efficient, restructured organization.
Before adopting Organimi, the AFSC team used Excel and other manual tools to manage its org charts. Creating and updating charts was slow and labor-intensive, and the resulting charts couldn’t incorporate all the information that AFSC needed.

Also, with an organization-wide reorganization underway, the AFSC leadership team required an org chart solution that could help them visualize the entire org structure and facilitate multiple ‘what-if’ scenarios.

With Organimi, AFSC could create a single, organization-wide chart and also departmental and geographic versions. They could easily import data from Excel and other applications, with the flexibility to add other elements (like photographs) in the future.
AFSC currently has over 400 employees in dozens of locations globally, and Organimi’s powerful search capabilities saved the team time and effort. “We used to have to scroll through spreadsheets,” explains Marcus. “Now it’s much faster and easier to locate an individual or make any necessary changes.”
With Organimi, the AFSC team significantly reduced the time it took to create and update their org charts. This helped ensure that the most current information was always available to all stakeholders.
The Organimi charts are also a boon to collaboration. Marcus looks forward to exploring and leveraging many of Organimi’s advanced capabilities. “The team finds Organimi very user-friendly, and the themes are awesome,” he says. “In the future, we’ll incorporate our AFCS colors into our charts to promote our brand internally. And we’ll be looking at importing even more employee information and linking to other data sources to make the Organimi experience even better.”
