This medical genetic testing firm is driven by company-wide innovation and collaboration. To achieve these outcomes, the firm must continually evaluate its organizational structure to deliver optimal performance.

The company’s finance team needed a tool to build several org chart versions to help them with forward planning, explore ‘what if’ organization scenarios, and create the high-performance structure the company needed to support its aggressive growth targets.

Business Challenge

The company’s finance team found that using Excel to create and maintain its org charts was slow and difficult, especially for non-technical users. The team also needed to import data into its org charts from various sources, including Excel and CSV files, which wasn’t possible with their legacy solution.

The finance team also wanted to include custom fields into their charts and have an elegant way to display employee and organizational information. “We wanted to make the charts more user-friendly,” says the company’s finance manager. “We knew that features like color-coding would make our org charts useful and intuitive, but we couldn’t do that with our legacy charts.”

The finance team also wanted a solution that could scale. “Different groups in the company were creating their org charts in different ways,” says the finance manager. “We knew that a common tool and format would improve efficiency across the entire company.”

Solution

The company’s finance team discovered Organimi through a Google search, and the finance manager found it both easy to use and a good fit for the team’s requirements. “It had the right balance of ease-of-use, powerful features, and cost-effectiveness,” he says.

With Organimi, the finance manager could import data from multiple sources and make extensive use of color-coding. “We used color to indicate open positions versus active employees,” he says.

Using custom fields gave the team even more flexibility. “We could add all sorts of additional information, like employee ID numbers,” the finance manager explains.

As the finance team shared their org charts internally, Organimi garnered interest from other teams. “HR has adopted the charts, as has our quality control team,” says the manager. “We’re finding that each team is using Organimi in different ways.”

Benefits

Using Organimi, the company was able to create and maintain its org charts much faster than with its legacy manual solution. They could also quickly develop multiple charts to capture smaller teams within the organization and build out ‘what if’ scenarios that were ideal for planning.

The Organimi charts were also much more flexible. “We can import employee data from multiple sources,” says the finance manager. “Using custom fields gives us a broad range of choices about what data we can include. And the color coding helps users visualize the information included in the charts.”

The finance manager is looking forward to exploring the enhanced features of Organimi’s latest release, Version 7.0, including its new reporting and backup snapshot capabilities. He’s also happy to learn that Version 7.0 includes even more flexible billing options. “We started with org charts for 250 to 300 employees, and our usage grew quickly from there,” he says. “It’s great that Organimi can scale with us, and even better than the pricing model scales accordingly.”
