Overview

For over 100 years, Richmond Power and Light has been a trusted service provider in the Richmond, Indiana, community. Evolving to provide consulting and internet services as well as traditional utilities, Richmond Power employs over 90 people.

To maximize internal communications and collaboration, Richmond Power needed an org chart that could be easily created, updated, and shared.

Business Challenge

The org chart was an essential internal communications tool for Richmond Power. However, legacy org charts were built with Word and Excel, or sometimes even written manually. These legacy charts were time-consuming to manage, could capture only limited staff information, and weren’t formatted effectively. “Before Organimi, our org charts looked messy and not professional,” says Bob Schroeder, Richmond Power’s Human Resources Director.

Schroeder and his team also wanted the ability to export the org chart in multiple formats, something that proved difficult with their legacy charts.

Faced with significant budget constraints, the Richmond Power team needed a cost-effective solution that didn’t require IT resources to manage. “The cost element was a significant factor,” says Schroeder.

Solution

Schroeder researched several potential org chart solutions and found Organimi to be the best fit for Richmond Power. “We have just under 100 employees, and many of the solutions weren’t financially feasible,” he says. “The Organimi solution was a good fit, and the cost was very reasonable.”

With Organimi, Schroeder could quickly create professional-looking org charts that included all essential employee information. He could also complete any required updates with minimal effort.

Organimi made distributing the updated charts easier. “I really like how you can export the charts in different formats,” says Schroeder. “It gives us much more flexibility when pushing them out to our teams or other stakeholders.”

Benefits

And the time Schroeder and his team saved by creating and managing the org charts with Organimi helped offset that investment. “Initial acquisition costs and minimal IT support requirements were significant considerations,” he says.

With Organimi, Schroeder could export and distribute Richmond Power’s org charts in multiple formats. And the new org charts were a hit with his management team. “Our GM and AGM like the new chart formats and appreciate how fast and easy it is to make changes and send them updated versions,” he explains.

Schroeder has begun evaluating Version 7.0 and plans to leverage its enhanced functionality to create custom fields and integrate Excel updates into his org charts. His first impressions are positive. “I like Version 7.0,” he says. “I think the transition will be seamless, and I really like the way the new interface looks.”
